Hey Reader
Here’s an interesting fact you might not know about me!
Apart from being a bit of a fitness nut and a nutrition nerd, I have also been a competitive Masters bodybuilder for the last 8 years. (Masters is the over 45’s category).
Stepping on stage as a bodybuilder..
is more than just a showcase of muscle, and body condition. It's a testament to discipline, resilience, confidence and mindset. The journey you take yourself on to get to that moment when you step on stage and showcase all your hard work, requires months (even years) of structured training, nutrition, and an unwavering commitment to self-improvement. What I didn’t realise at the start was how much this journey would shape me, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. And ultimately, how it would make me a better coach.

Bodybuilding takes discipline that can transform your live, success doesn’t happen by chance. It comes from consistency, showing up, even when you don’t feel like it. I would often train for 2 hours a day when I was in full competition mode, it would be tough and yes there was times when I would sit there and ask myself, WHY are doing this, you must need your bumps reading! But I knew the end goal and how I would feel when I achieved my goal.
This process has taught me a lot, and I learned from it! That same discipline is what I now bring into my coaching and mentoring, helping women like you transition from corporate life into a business of your own. Building a business, like building a strong body, takes structure, planning, and execution. There are no shortcuts, but the rewards? They’re life-changing!
When I first started out on this crazy sport, I didn’t truly the understand the impact this would have on my mindset. The mindset shift I had to undertake took me further than just strength, it went beyond the gym.
Strength training isn't just about lifting weights, it’s about lifting yourself. When you train your body, you train your mind. The focus, patience, and determination it takes to complete a workout mirrors the resilience needed to navigate life’s biggest decisions. It teaches you patience, perseverance, and how to push past mental barriers. In business, just like in training, there will be tough days.
There will be moments when self-doubt creeps in, when things feel overwhelming, when progress seems slow. But if you’ve trained your body to persist, you’ll train your mind to persist too.
I’ve seen this shift happen in the women I coach, when they start strength training, they start believing in their ability to tackle new challenges, including stepping into the shoes of becoming a business owner or entrepreneurship with confidence.
When you train your body, you start believing in your ability to handle anything and there’s a real sense of achievement as you start to handle heaver weights.
When I take myself out of my office space, I often find that some of my greatest ideas or creative moments come when I’m trying to push for that goal of 220kg’s on the leg press! For many mid-life women, especially those feeling stuck in corporate roles, strength training becomes a catalyst for change.
If you’re an active “Exerciser” have you ever noticed how a tough workout leaves you feeling lighter, more in control? But why does strength training calm the mind? There’s science behind it.
Strength training releases endorphins, those feel-good hormones that naturally combat stress and anxiety. But beyond the chemical benefits, there's something deeply empowering about pushing through physical barriers, it translates into mental resilience, helping you see challenges not as roadblocks, but as opportunities.
- It forces you to slow down, be present, and focus, essential when making critical business decisions.
- It teaches you to manage stress and avoid burnout, a huge challenge for new business owners and entrepreneurs.
- It shifts your perspective, suddenly, obstacles aren’t roadblocks; they’re just another challenge to work through.

This is just one of reasons why I integrate physical activity and mindset work into my coaching. Because if you can build a strong body, you can build a strong business.
I have had many a conversation with women in their 40s and 50s, who often think that strength training isn’t for them. I’m here to tell you it absolutely is, I’m 54 and I have no plans to give this sport up that I enjoy so much.

There are so many physical benefits, especially if you’re going through the Perimenopause, strength training is beneficial for preventing osteoporosis and ensuring a strong muscle mass to take you into your older years. Don’t panic, you don’t need to look like Arnie! I certainly don’t. Your muscle chain is all connected.
Women in their 40s and 50s often believe they’re “too late” to start something new. I’m here to tell you, it’s never too late. During some of my gruelling gym sessions I’ve had women tell me they never imagined lifting weights, let alone feeling powerful doing it. Yet, through training, they’ve rediscovered confidence, energy, and drive, not just for fitness, but for life and business.
The same applies to leaving corporate. You might not have thought about starting a business before, but just like strength training, it’s a journey of learning, growing, and transforming yourself. And, just like you don’t have to lift heavy weights alone, you don’t have to build your business alone either.
But what bodybuilding and strength training has taught me is that success isn’t about quick fixes, it’s about commitment, strategy, and resilience. That’s exactly how I approach my coaching and mentoring. My programs aren’t about vague advice or one-size-fits-all strategies; they’re built on a structured, step-by-step approach, just like a solid training plan. I help women create awesome businesses with a clear roadmap, focusing on sustainable growth rather than chasing overnight success.
What makes my coaching unique is that I don’t just teach business, I coach mindset, resilience, and personal transformation. I know what it takes to push past fear, self-doubt, and excuses, and I teach women how to apply that same strength to their entrepreneurial journey. When you invest to work with me, you're not just getting business strategies, you’re gaining the mental toughness, confidence, and clarity to create lasting success.
So, if you’re in a place where you feel stuck, uncertain, or weighed down by stress, I urge you to try strength training. Not just for your body, but for your mind. It might just be the shift you need to see your life, and your future, with new clarity.
I’d love to know how you get on.
