I need to say something most coaches won't say to you

Hey Reader

I want to say something to you today that most people in the health and wellness space won't say.

You are not doing it wrong.

You're exercising, eating well and managing your stress as best you can. You are doing everything you were ever told to do, but now your body is not responding the way it used to.

This is because nobody has told you why, and now you're quietly started to wonder if the problem is you.

It isn't. The rules changed. And you were never given the new ones.

WHAT'S ACTUALLY HAPPENING

During perimenopause, oestrogen declines. This isn't a gradual, barely-noticeable shift, it's a fundamental change in how your body operates at a cellular level.

Fat that used to be stored around your hips and thighs now gets directed to your abdomen. This is visceral fat, stored deep around your organs, driven by hormonal change, not by what you ate on Tuesday.

Your metabolism slows by an estimated 200–300 calories per day. Muscle mass, which is the engine of your metabolism, begins to decline at around 1% per year from your mid-thirties and perimenopause accelerates this.

But what makes it worse? The strategies that worked at 35 don't just stop working. Some of them actively make things worse.

Eating less raises cortisol, elevated cortisol drives visceral fat storage. More intense cardio spikes cortisol further and skipping meals puts your body into a conservation state, and when your body is conserving, it holds onto fat. Especially around the middle.

You're not failing the approach. The approach is failing you.

WHAT THIS LOOKS LIKE IN REAL LIFE

  • Going to the gym four times a week and watching your waistline expand anyway.
  • Eating well, genuinely well, and still feeling like your clothes are getting smaller.
  • A 3pm crash that no amount of willpower prevents.
  • Waking up tired after eight hours of sleep.
  • A brain that isn't quite as sharp as it was, at the exact moment your career demands the most of it.

It looks like doing everything right, and feeling like something is fundamentally wrong.

The women who find their way to me are almost always the most disciplined women in the room. They are not struggling because they lack effort. They are struggling because they are applying effort to an outdated map.

SO WHAT CAN YOU DO? THE SHIFT THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING

When you understand what's actually happening in your body, not the simplified version, not the 'just eat less' version, but the real physiological picture, something shifts.

You stop fighting yourself, stop interpreting your body's responses as failure. You start building a strategy "Strategic Self-Care" that's designed for who you actually are right now, not who you were ten years ago.

That strategy looks like this:

• Eating enough protein, distributed across the day.

• Strength training instead of more cardio.

• Managing cortisol as a body composition strategy.

• Treating sleep as a metabolic intervention, not a luxury.

• Recalibrating the inner narrative, replacing the story that says 'I'm failing' with one that says 'I need different information.'

None of this is complicated, or requires you to become a different person. It requires you to understand your body, and then work with it.

IF THIS IS YOU

Ask yourself this:

Do you recognise the version of you described above, capable, disciplined, doing everything right, and still feeling like your body is working against you?

Do you suspect that what you need isn't more effort, but a different approach, one that actually accounts for who you are at this stage of life?

If you said yes to either of those, this is your invitation.

If this landed for you, let's talk.

A discovery call with me is a real conversation, not a sales pitch. You'll leave with clarity on what's actually driving your depletion, and what your personal next step looks like. Whether we work together or not.

Spots are limited. I work with a small number of women at a time.

Until next time, keep going, know that the version of you who feels strong, sharp, and like herself again is not as far away as it feels right now.

My gift to you. If you haven't downloaded my free guide yet "You're Not Starting Over. You're Starting From Here" it's the place to begin. It's written for the woman who knows something needs to change but isn't sure where to start.

With love and a strong coffee,
