Hey Reader
Phew what a scorcher!
Britain is having a moment. The forecast looks like a holiday brochure, and half the country is currently googling “is it normal to sweat this much.”
Funny? Yes. Serious? Also yes.
Heatwaves aren’t just uncomfortable. They hit energy, concentration, sleep and mood, hard. And if your hormones already throw the odd heatwave from the inside, courtesy of perimenopause or menopause, this week is basically Mother Nature doubling down.
Rude!
So instead of my usual energy and alignment chat, I’m handing you something properly useful this week: a Staying Safe in the Heatwave guide, built on Met Office advice and translated out of “vague wellness waffle” into plain English.
Here’s the headline version.
1. Hydrate before you’re thirsty
Thirst means you’re already behind. Sip water steadily through the day, and go easy on the wine. Alcohol and dehydration are not a great double act in this heat.
2. Dodge the sun’s power hour
Keep out of direct sun between 11am and 3pm where you can. Shift walks, workouts, dog walks and errands to the cooler edges of the day.
On the subject of dogs: never leave them in a parked car. Not “just for a minute.” Dogs die in hot cars, every single year.
3. Cool the space, not just open it
Curtains closed on sun-facing rooms.
Windows shut while it’s hotter outside than in.
Loft hatch open, because heat rises and wants out. Open everything up again once the temperature drops.
4. Cool the body, not just the room
Take a cool shower, pop a cold flannel on the back of your neck. Lighter meals, looser clothes. Small cooling actions, repeated often, beat one heroic gesture at 6pm.
5. Check on your people
Older relatives, neighbours who live alone. Anyone pregnant, unwell, or working outside in this.
A two-minute phone call costs you nothing and could matter more than you’d think.
6. SPF, properly
Factor 30 or higher, 4-star UVA, applied generously and reapplied often, especially once you’ve been swimming, sweating or towelling off. Sunscreen sits alongside shade, a hat and sunglasses. It doesn’t replace them.
Remember - Slip, Slop, Slap, Shade
None of this is rocket science. But knowing it and actually doing it, while busy, hot and slightly murderous by 2pm, are two very different things.
I’ve put the full visual guide together for you (attached). Save it, share it, send it to the group chat that still argues about whether sun cream “really” needs reapplying.

And if you want the FAB Method translation this is:
Foundation, plain and simple. Look after the basics first, water, sleep, temperature, and everything else gets easier to manage.
Alignment doesn’t wait for cooler weather. It’s choosing the steady option over the heroic one, today, in this heat.
Breakthrough, make it to the end of the day!
Stay cool out there.
Love, Jo 💜
My gift to you
