I recently wrote a post on LinkedIn about managing those pesky cravings at Christmas. I had several ladies messaging me, to thank me for addressing this, and I felt I should share this with you if you're not a LinkedIn user or if you haven't seen it.
So please read on, there's no right or wrong, just a few subtle tips to help you during this time of year.
How do you cope with cravings at Christmas when you’re over 50, and everyone is dangerously dangling treats under your nose?
Let’s be honest, if like me you love this time of year, but it can often feel like a battlefield.
All you see around is adverts pushing Christmas food at you. A bloke dressed as The Grinch, Dawn French as Tinkerbell and let’s not forget the annoying pair of carrots!
It’s everywhere!
You walk into a room and suddenly you’re ambushed by mince pies, tubs of chocolate, biscuit tins the size of small suitcases, have a glass of mulled wine, it's Christmas, and that one person who thinks you “must try this, it’s only small”. Meanwhile, your hormones are doing the cha-cha, your appetite has a mind of its own, and your willpower feels about as strong as a soggy sprout. Like the ones that have been on the hob since April!
Then along comes the next “fitness guru” who is still about 25 years off 50, telling you to do this, do that, eat this, don't eat that, blah blah blah! and you just want to shout, GO AWAY!!!

So how do you stay strong without feeling deprived, miserable, or like the Grinch who stole her own joy?
Here’s what I tell my clients inside my "Becoming Her - REIGNITE" program.
⭐ Change the question
Instead of “How do I stop myself?”
Ask, “What does my body actually need right now?”
Women over 50 need steady blood sugar, good protein, and enough nourishment to avoid the energy crashes that cause cravings.
If you’re hungry, tired, cold or stressed, the chocolate will always win.
⭐ Pick your pleasures on purpose
You don’t have to say no to everything.
You just don’t have to say yes to everything all at once.
Choose the treats you genuinely love, not the ones you eat because they’re in front of you.
Savour them slowly.
Make them a moment, not a mindless grab.
⭐ Create a tiny pause
Before you reach for it, just ask yourself…
“Is this me wanting it, or is this the room pressuring me?”
That one breath gives you your power back.
⭐ Have your anchors ready
A high-protein breakfast, protein will keep you feeling fuller for longer, without the sugar crash from sugary cereal.
A proper lunch, Protein, Carbs and Fats.
A glass of water before the fizz.
A quick walk when you feel overwhelmed.
These small things stabilise your hormones and stop the cravings from ruling the day.
⭐ And finally… be kind to yourself
You’re not weak.
You’re not broken.
You’re a woman navigating a changing body, a busy season, and a lifetime of being told to “just be good.”
You don’t need perfection.
You need awareness, compassion, and a strategy that supports you.
