Hey Reader
Hello October! It's certainly getting wiggle on.......
Let’s talk about something many women quietly struggle with, anxiety at work. I know I did when I had my Corporate career.
You might look calm and capable on the outside, but inside, your mind is racing. You’re overthinking that meeting from yesterday, second-guessing your last email, or lying awake at night replaying conversations in your head.
Sound familiar?
You’re not alone. Research shows that women are almost twice as likely to experience anxiety as men, and it’s even more common during our 40's and 50's. In fact:
- Around 60% of professional women say workplace stress and anxiety have increased over the past five years.
- 1 in 4 women report that anxiety symptoms directly impact their performance at work.
- Hormonal changes during peri- and post-menopause can increase anxiety levels by up to 30%.
That’s not weakness. It’s physiology, pressure, and the mental load of trying to hold it all together at work, at home, and in life.
So why do so many Women feel this way?
The truth is, anxiety thrives in environments where we’re constantly switched on, expected to be perfect, and rarely given space to pause.
Many women tell me:
“I’m exhausted, but I can’t switch off.”
“I keep waiting for someone to notice I’m not coping.”
“I feel guilty even thinking about taking time out.”
The combination of overload, hormonal changes, and lack of emotional support can leave even the most accomplished women feeling like they’re failing, when in fact, they’re running on empty.
What you can do about it?
If anxiety is creeping into your work life, here are a few simple but powerful shifts you can make:
- Pause before reacting.
Use the “STOP” technique - Stop, take a breath, observe what’s happening, and proceed calmly. It takes 30 seconds but can change the whole tone of a meeting or conversation.
- Manage your nervous system, not just your calendar.
Step outside for a few minutes of natural light, hydrate properly, and move your body. These small actions regulate your hormones and calm your mind far more effectively than pushing through.
- Set emotional boundaries.
You don’t need to say yes to everything. Saying no doesn’t make you difficult; it makes you sustainable.
- Find a support system.
Whether that’s a trusted friend, a mentor, or a workplace wellness group, sharing what you’re going through lifts the pressure instantly. Anxiety grows in silence, connection helps it fade.
A Gentle Reminder
Anxiety doesn’t mean you’re broken. It’s a signal that something in your life or environment needs adjusting. The good news is, when you respond with awareness instead of avoidance, things start to change fast.
